john GLASER 5k

This morning Matt, Sydney and I, along with our Fire Fighting Family will be joined by thousands as we all participate in the inaugural John Glaser Memorial 5K Run/Walk being held in honor of our friend and fellow Shawnee firefighter John Glaser who passed away this May in a house fire. The event benefits the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (SAFE) which supports the families of Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Services Personnel in the Kansas City metropolitan area who have perished while protecting our community and our citizens.

John - we miss you, and a day does not pass that our hearts don't ache with your absence...

Sydney and I were having fun the other day using food-coloring to make different shades and colors in these jars I recently acquired. Well, it didn't take me long to realize I was going to have even more fun photographing the light coming through the jars. Here are just a few (literally) of the shots I played around with. It was a great way to show her that we could make different colors, and she loved telling me which one was what, and learning a few new ones.

More colorful shots to follow soon...just too many to choose from today.

I actually felt a bit more challenged than usual with this week's YOU CAPTURE. I was constantly thinking about making sure I took a picture of people together to get my point across...but what I found in the end is that the few photos I actually took of us together didn't portray what I was thinking. So, I sifted through all the pics I took this week and came up with these instead. What this signifies for me, is the moment that my husband and I were having together watching Sydney run around in the rain the other day...laughing and smiling, thinking it was the best thing in the world. And we got to share that TOGETHER...which is why it was special to me.

I have to post more than once. Syd and I spent most of the day outside today taking photos of a variety of things...but this last one was my favorite...and I just couldn't wait to post it.

We visited the Deanna Rose Farmstead yesterday and located John's Bench.
No words really...I managed not to cry, but my heart continues to ache.

Syd and I roasted Hotdogs around the firepit Sunday night...but she stuffed her face full of mostly chips. I swear that girl would eat a whole bag if I let her...she's crazy like that! are a couple of shots I got of her in the process.

The weather finally turned last night...the air conditioner will hopefully be turned off for good until next spring, and the cool breeze of Fall will find its way through the windows. These are a few of the fall buds I found in my backyard this week...
